World Cup 2018 in Russia will have Video Referees

This will be the first World Cup ever using video referees, as FIFA anounced to the BBC a few weeks earlier. Multiple countries have tested this form of controlling the games, and until now all tests went extremely positive. The FIFA hopes to reduce game-changing mistakes with this new technology, like cancelling goals falsly.

When will the video referee be used?

According to FIFA chairman Gianni Infantino, the video referee will only be used in game-changing events, like goals, red cards and fouls. It is considered a help tool for referees. The technology should reduce the amount of man-made mistakes. This will have a positive influence on the game for the players, as well as the referees. Because in the end, no referee likes to makes mistakes.
